Embankment is a video installation. The video plays on two identical 50” flat panel monitors suspended parallel to two identical waterbeds. The video must be viewed from the position lying beneath the monitors.

The video is an assemblage of improvisational performances and interviews filmed at the Three Gorges Dam and various towns along its reservoir in Sichuan and Hunan China. A hybrid genre between documentary, performance and film essay, Embankment wanders through a changing landscape and its associated narratives. Trees are uprooted and transplanted along a new boulevard, a women’s music troupe performs a dance in a massive construction site, a young couple describe their dreams to each other beside the river, and a fisherman talks about the quality of water and his life.
